My Dear Mrs Grossman

I send yue a little book written by a niece of mine. I feel, that when I am gone, which must be soon, I would like to be kindly remembered by a grandchild of that most gifted & distinguished man whom I knew so well. There is nothing remarkable in the book, only that

the girl who composed it did not enjoy the advantages of an academic education she is mainly self-educated

I have been intending all summer to take her & her sister down to see you & your husband & father & those lovely children, but I have not been to the Pier but once

this whole summer; and that was when I made the call on your father You, being a mother, can understand why an old bachelor is tender toward the child of a widowed sister With kind regards to husband & father believe me vry truly your friend & servant E H Hasgard
