Autographed photo of Thomas F. Pendel
Description
Thomas F. Pendel inscribes both sides of a black and white photograph of himself. In the lower portion of the photograph, Pendel writes: "Thomas F. Pendel. White House Nov. 3 1864 aug. 30 1898." In the upper left hand corner of the photo is a newspaper clipping describing him as the chief doorkeeper at the White House. On the reverse side of the photograph Pendel writes: "i entered on duties in the White House November 3, 1864 bin on duty continuously eversince. Your truly, Thomas F. Pendel. Aug. 30, 1898". This photograph once accompanied Pendel's sketch about his time as a White House doorman. It is also part of the Taper Collection.
