Gov Yates,
I shall not soon forget the frank and candid manner in which you notified me that you would appoint me to the Ilis Attorney ship in this district in case of Mr. Lamon's resignation.
I trust that I shall give you cause to be satisfied with the selection and that you will be convinced that I am not ungrateful. I do not write to remind you of your remarks but for the purpose of stating that I am now more than ever in need of the place on account of circumstances which I will not trouble you with. relating
when the time of Mr. Laman's resignation comes which I anticipate any day I will exhibit the endorsement of the leading members of the Bar & Republican citizens of this place and also of DeWitt County.
Mr. Logan I understand they have a candidate but I know I have the good wishes of many leading Republicans there.
I write this letter mainly for the purpose of assuring you that I yet earnestly desire the appointment and of renewing to you my thanks for your kind consideration heretofore.
Respectfully
Harvey Hogg
His Ex Gov Yates
