Springfield March 30th 1863
To his Excellency
Governor Richard Yates
Sir!
The undersigned for himself and in the name of all maried men of his companie (Co. F. of the 17th Cav. Ill. Vol.) would respectfully apply to Your Excellency to give orders to the paymaster to pay us out for the service, we have performed. When we inlisted six months ago, we left our familis back without any subsistens, expecting to fight for our Contry and also hoping, that our wifes and children would not suffer under the war. But we dit not receive no payment at all till this day, while we performed our duty; and our wifes ar not able to buy bread and shoes. So I thought to adresse our wishes to Your favor. You please will take notice of
of this and oblige
Yours respectfully
