Memphis Tenn. March 31st 1863
To His Excellency Richard Yates Governor of the State of Ill.
Dear Sir;
I have abundant assurances that I shall have the place referred to in the accompanying note of Mr. McCarty and I shall be under lasting obligation to you if you will use your influence to procure my discharge as indicated. I do not desire to be out of the service of my country but have tried it long enough to know that I cannot stand the service in the capacity of a soldier, and I know that I can make my services valuable to the country in the place I am seeking. The accompanying Doc's are respectfully submitted.
Yours Truly
C. M. Chenowith
