Gov. R. Yates.
Sir, I have been in the Cavalry Service, with the fifth Iowa Volunteers, for fifteen months, I was discharged last Nov. by reason of General Order No 125 dated Sept 6th 1862, at A.G.O. Washington, D.C.
Being a Noncommissioned Officer on the Battallion Staff.
Recovering from ill health during the Winter. Illinoise is my home, and wishing to return into Cavalry Service, as it is my choice,
After seeing so much Service, I do not wish to reenlist as a private, knowing I am capable to Command as I am to obey Commands, Therefore, I would beg your Honor, if you can grant it
Giving me a Commission in one of the Cavalry Regmt of this State,
Respt,
C.H. Gibons,
