His Excellency Richd Yates.
Dear Sir.
I addressed a letter to Col Turner in Your care some days since, hoping he would receive it before leaving for Washington, in which I suggested the idea of his fixing appointments for yourself & the other Dick in the 4th Congressional district, commencing soon after Oglesby left the 3d District. I have not heard from him since. Did he recieve the letter & did he make any arrangement regarding that matter.
You will be expected in the Northern part of the State soon,
I believe our people are quietly organizing in the State, much more that seems from a general survey. Our defeat sends the country to the_________sure. I feel it so & I wish I could make every other man feel it. I have the honor to be Truly Yours
James P. Root.
