Dear Sir

I write you hopeing this may meet your approbation - asking you to have me transferd to Chicago Ills there to be assigned to the V. R. C. as it is mi own native State & as I have bin examined found un fit for the front am marked for the 1st Bat V.R. C. of which I am now waiting to be transferd to some Co of Which I had Rather Do Duty in mi own State

I ask you to Do what you Can for me of which I Shall be Greatly Oblige to you for your trouble = I have over two years to Serve yet have Served out one term Reinlisted 24th Dec/68 Have Bin wonded - & Could I git to chicago I would be Nearer mi family = I will now Close hopeing that you Can Do Some thing for an old Vet that Has always Done his Duty
