19th 1864 Mound City Hospital Oct

Your Excellency

Presuming on your known friendship for the Soldier I take the liberty of writing to you to beg your influence in favor of getting a furlough I was sick with the remittent fever at Little Rock and was sent up here with some 130 others Illinois boys on the [date?] January and arrived here to day or rather last night in the night and if you will help me to get home for a month I think I would be able to go back to the Rock at the end of that time and be fit for duty. I should like to go home immediately for I have had no letters from my wife for a month and I also want to be at home to vote-

as we came up the river the Hospital Steward I think it was canvassed the boat and the result was something near 5 to 1 in favor of Lincoln and Johnson please use your influence in my favor and I shall be greatly obliged to you for the kindness.

Yours Most Respectfully

George W. Tyler Ward H General Hospital Mound City, Ill

P.S. I belong to Company G 106 Ill. There is some 18 or 20 from our regiment here might I also request your influence in their favor

Yours for the union G. W. Tyler

Hon. Richard Yates
