Mr. Hoffman!

Sir,

I will inform you of my whereabouts, I have enlisted in the 4th New Jersey Battery, under the intention that I would get a Commission in the Said Battery; But now I see that it is impossible for me to be Selected there, for one reason, there are plenty of Non-Commissioned Officers in the Battery who will have the first opportunity to get it. Therefore I would like that you would be so kind and get me a Commission in the Infantry and I am shure that I can manage my way through, but in the Artillery I am verry little posted with in this Country, if you can do anything for a poor fellow please Show your Mercy on me, you know that I have got a large Family who will and must be Supported, therefore I do beg of that you will do Justice to an old Friend and I think that my Country needs me

me yet, in her last days of perrill and I would be verry sorry if I could not Stand by my Countrys Flag from beginning the End.

Mr. Hoffman please let me know something about it, if there is any chance in the 82 Regt I would like to go in to.

I am Verry Respectffully

Your Obedient Servant
