The brave Lieut [Kuhn?]who has for the last year been my A.A. Genl, goes to Springfield, Ill. to be mustered out of Service. His term of enlistment having expired. I am desirous he may be continued in the service with the rank of Capt. as A. Adt. Genl.

I know him to be among the best officers in the Army. He goes to Washington with letters to the President asking that he may be Commissioned. Will you, Gov, be so kind as to give him your influence? You will confer a great favour to me personally by so doing. This di-
