Gov Rich Yates
Springfield Ills
Sir
Yours of 23nd April has just been recd. I started to Pittsburgh landg as I informed your after my son and found him at Paducah Ky and for the want of a pass from you I had to bear my own expenses.
It cost me thirety three 75/100 dollars Rail Road & steamboat fare besides about ten dollars of a board bill.
Now in view of the fact that my son has served his Country since the 10th of September last and not been paid one cent and had to be brought home sick and still remains sick with but little hope of ever being well I thought it would not be amiss to ask you to provide some means to refund my expenses to me.
Permit me in conclution to congratulate you on your perfect success in
the administration of your office of Governor of the State. I had the honor of being a delegate from Stephenson to the convention that placed you in the position you now so honorably fill, I trust that your fame may never be less and that you may long live to enjoy the good name that you have so nobly won
Yours truly

Asks to be reimbursed for expenses – about $43.75 – in going to see his sick son at Paducah.
In this case I hardly know what to do. Write him that he should have got a pass for himself and the state could have been reimbursed but that if he will make out acct for actual expenses for transportation of the body I will try & have allowed
