I take pleasure in recommending to your favorable consideration William H Ashburn of the 2nd regiment of Illinois Cavelry who desires the appointment of Quarter Master of one of the new regiments about to be organized in our state I have known Mr Ashburn intimately since the first organization of our regiment and know him to be well qualified for the position to which he aspires he has been a good faithful soldier at all times and merits promotion I therefore hope that you will Give his application a favorable consideration
