Dear Sir
I recieved your Letter 8th Inst I was sum what pleased with it But since I rote you I recieved a letter from Clark County Ills Johnson s Mill and I am offord 95 men in one plase and they say these are willing to join any ridgment if I will Cum and Command them I am willing to give a fair trial to them I musterd them several times at muster days and I feel like it woul be my duty as it is there ernest Request for me to Cum and take Command of them Now Govener it Lays in you wheather I take Command or not I will not writ to them untill I hear
from you a gain I will Now tell you as I did Befour if you want a Recommindation I will give as good Recommendation as Can be given in this western Division or in the State of Illinois I think I Can give sattifaction to any man or any Commander that will examine me at any time or any whose or at any place I think it is better to give a Company of men a Commander that they are sattified with for it make men Better soldiers and makes men more peasable a mong each other I have bin in the arma Long enought to now this thang and you now your self that has bin two much the Case in this Cumpany there has Bin three Captains in this Company always a fuss in the Company Butterfield and freeman Could not take out half
of these men on dress perrade or on a scout and those four I think it is Better to give men there Choice in Commanders Nothing maur ondly I ask an answer in Return to this
