I take pleasure in commending Cyrus H Keeley to the favorable consideration of Society.
He is an old and worthy Soldier and after 3 years faithfull Service he now retires from the Army, with the good will and respect of all his fellow officers.
He commanded "K" Company 56th U.S. Infantry (Colored), with energy and promptness.
He was ever faithfull and true, in every trial and conflict. He may be trusted as a friend, and relied upon as a brave Soldier. May his journey through life be peacefull, and his end triumphant.

Sir,
I have the honor to request of you the permission to raise a company of men, Infantry in the countys of Greene & Jersey I am well acquainted in both countys & I think I could raise the men I have been in the Army since /61 & understand the Army Regulations & Drill especialy Infantry -- I resigned my position as captain in the 56th US Inft (Colored) 30 March /64 being unwell & unable to procure a leave of absence.
