Dear Friend
Your favor of 19th inst is at hand and contents duly noticed and hasten to Reply" I am glad to inform you that though we live in Egypt "we are able to rule the roost at the polls" and more than willing---we have caried the elections here for several years and polled a heavyer majority last election than at any previous time. We have some very rabid copperheads down here and in fact plenty of them---yet we have a greater number of staunch Republicans and we feel that we are gaining ground. I think my immediate vicinity is the worst copperhead corner of the state---and I am not afraid to hail "forAbe"
have no free Gov., we will sustain ourselves and sustain Gov Yates in any time of need---as you have done us when on the field of action accuse me not of flatery as it is only the voice of every Ills soldier---find one and you find a friend
