Dear Friend
I saw Col Hirshback during his short visit in St. Louis & I have prepared an article for the Editorial column of the Democrat - which was to have appeared this morning, but in the mean time another on the same subject, & I dare say much more to the point was sent here from Forrest. As it no doubt covered the ground I told them to destroy the one I had written. I have to day drawn up something for the Evening News which will probably see the light to-morrow
& I will send you a copy. I am glad that your Senatorial prospects look so bright. You have my best wishes & may command my cheerful cooperation, whenever you may think if of any benefit to you. I sent you some days since a copy of Judge Watts Report on my case, which I hope has reached you ere this. Let me hear from you if anything is wanting. The Democrat & News are both warmly friendly to you.
Believe me Governor
your friend & servt
